Principal's Message
I welcome you to another great year at Frontier Elementary School where the students, staff and families say, “We Love School.” Our fantastic K-6 elementary program has been nominated as a 2009-2010 National Blue Ribbon School .
Our commitment to community and family involvement is evident in everything we do. Our teachers and staff are dedicated, caring professionals who are focused on fulfilling the district mission, “To inspire each student to extraordinary achievement everyday.”
At Frontier, we teach, model, practice and expect all students to Be Safe, to Be Respectful and to Be Responsible.
It is my passion and uncompromising view that “all students can learn” when they are given a positive learning atmosphere that welcomes exploration and enhances student confidence. It is my belief that an educator’s mission is to make school enjoyable, exciting and challenging while covering the State content standards and district expectations. If students look forward to attending school, they will want to learn.
Frontier Elementary School has the well-established reputation of being an outstanding school. This could not happen without the support of the entire school community: students, teachers, parents, staff, and business partners. I am honored to be a part of this tradition of excellence and look forward to meeting and working with you in the days and weeks ahead.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Frontier School Community is rooted in empowering students to meet their fullest potential by providing a safe and positive learning environment, maintaining high academic and behavior standards, and encouraging lifelong learning.
Curriculum Development
All curriculum development in the Rio Linda Union Elementary is based on the California State Content Standards and Frameworks. Curriculum guides are updated regularly by the Educational Services Department, to align with the state standards, district goals, and the statewide assessment program.
School Leadership
Leadership at Frontier Elementary is a responsibility shared between district administration, the principal, instructional staff, students, and parents. The district’s emphasis is on a well-balanced and rigorous core curriculum at all grade levels. Instructional programs are aligned with state and district standards. Leadership duties were assumed by Principal Ellen Giffin. Staff members and parents participate on various committees that make decisions regarding the priorities and direction of the school plan to ensure instructional programs are consistent with students’ needs and the school plan complies with district goals.
Parent & Community Involvement
Frontier's School Site Council consists of elected parents, staff and community members. It serves in an advisory role for school programs and budget. Meetings are held monthly and are open to all interested parties.
The Frontier PTA is a volunteer organization of family members and teachers who represent familiy interests, raise funds and organize school events. New members are always needed.
Our English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) meets four times a year to ensure that EL students' needs are being met.
