Do You Qualify for a Free or Reduced-Price Meal?

We understand the financial challenges that many families face today. If you feel you may qualify for meals free of charge or at a reduced rate, please complete a Free and Reduced-Price Application and return it to your school as soon as possible. An application is available for you to download in the box below this message.

Filling out and returning an application may not only provide YOU with the benefit of saving money, but the statistical results of the pool of applications we receive determine the level of funding your SCHOOL receives for many of its programs.

MORE QUALIFYING APPLICATIONS = MORE SCHOOL $$$$$

Even if you don't think you will qualify, we urge you to submit a meal application.

Please help us avoid teacher lay-offs and further cuts to programs and services.

It only takes a minute to fill out the application and it doesn't cost a thing!

After your application is submitted, it will be reviewed and eligibility will be determined. If you do not receive a decision notification in the mail within 15 days of your submission, please call this office at 566-1600 ext 1525.

Food Safety in our Cafeterias

School cafeterias across the nation are mandated to receive health inspections twice per year. The purpose of these inspections is to ensure that our facilities and workers are complying with safety and sanitation requirements - from checking food temperatures to wearing gloves.

The Sacramento County Environmental Health Department does an excellent job at making sure this mandate is met. Every permitted cafeteria in the Twin Rivers School District has received their required number of inspections with a 100% "PASS" rate.

But we don't stop there, we self inspect our sites on a regular basis. Every kitchen has at least one staff member that has taken a food handlers course and earned a food safety certificate. Our Field Supervisors and Management staff are constantly visiting our cafeterias to ensure our staff follow safe food handling practices. We have developed and recently initiated a "Site Standard" inspection to ensure that every area of food safety in our cafeterias are checked.

Letter from the Director

1-13-10

The holiday's are over and 2010 is here! The 2010-2011 school year menus are under construction and our 2nd annual food show for our ASB students is scheduled for Friday the 15th of January. Eight to ten food vendors will be showcasing their products and hopefully winning the taste buds of our secondary student body officers.

Our menus must meet the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans which recommends that no more than 30% of an individual's calories come from fat, and less than 10% come from saturated fat. For lunch we must provide 1/3 of the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) of vitamins and minerals, and breakfast 1/4 of the RDA. All items showcased at our food show's meet these requirements.

12-1-09

Another celebration! Grant High School Main campus received $70,000 from President Obama's Equipment Assistance Grant to upgrade their cafeteria serving line. The equipment arrived in mid-October. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be announced soon.

11-1-09

Aero Haven Elementary School received grant funds that will provide extra fresh fruits and vegetables for their students again this year.

Three times a week, students receive a sample of fresh fruits and vegetable during morning recess. This year they will be trying Fennel, Apples, Figs, Raspberries, Pears, Zucchini, Cherry Tomatoes and many other varieties of fresh produce.

California Children's 5aday-Power Play has joined forces with Aero Haven to bring nutrition education into the classroom as well. Sister Strawberry and Cousin Carrot danced and sang at their Fresh Fruit and Vegetable celebration on September 25th. Power Play provides free training and technical assistance to community organizations that promotes an environment in which children are taught to make healthful food choices and be physically active. Congratulations to Aero Haven and their wonderful staff!

We continuously strive to provide the best and highest quality of food and customer service we can offer. Thank you for your patience while we work towards achieving excellence, we sincerely thank you for your patronage.
